"Brother Bear," the new Disney animated film, is more than set in the distant past when woolly mammoths roamed the Earth, it's largely made in a traditional technique that, skeptics say, may soon be as extinct as that ancient beast.

Paul King's Bunny & The Bull is a film that doesn't seem to be quite certain what it wants to be. Is it a quirky, Gondry-esque comedy? Is it a human tragedy? Or some sort of fusion of the two? It never quite settles on any option and so becomes just slightly less than any of them, which is a shame because King and his talented cast obviously have talent to burn and had that talent been clearly focused on a single path this film could very likely have been one of the strongest debuts to come on the scene for quite some time. As it is, instead of greatness, it'll have to settle for being rather good.

"Flexing With Monty" has had a curious history -- shooting commenced in 1994, then was complicated by budgetary woes and the deaths of a leading actor and producer before assembly wrapped quite recently. Writer-director John Albo's first (and to date only) feature is a definite curiosity, though its muddled allegory and lack of a clear point grow quickly tiresome. Heavy on talk and thin on plot, the stagy piece seems designed mostly as a showcase for the physique of ex-boxer Trevor Goddard. Simultaneous with its DVD release, the pic is pursuing midnight screenings.
